Gurgaon, that once used to be a sleepy town of Haryana, has become a happening destination of NCR (National Capital Region). New Gurgaon is termed as a concrete jungle as it boasts of tall and glitzy structures. Many people believe that Gurgaon has nothing interesting to offer except world class structures and huge malls. Here we have tried to describe 5 exciting things that you can do in Gurgaon.

Gurgaon has strong historical and mythological connections. According to the epic of Mahabharata, the village of Gurgaon was gifted by Pandava brothers to their teacher (guru) Dronacharya. Thus the place is known as Gurgaon or Guru ka gaon.

Saiyad and Dhankot: For those who are interested in visiting a couple of historical sites in Gurgaon, a trip to Saiyad and Dhankot will be ideal. Saiyad lies 3 km West of Gurgaon on Dharampur Road and is believed to be the home for Guru Droncharya during historical times. You can still witness some of his possesions there. Saiyad still has preserves of pottery and artefacts that date back to the Iron Age.

Dhankot is a little farther and lies 11km away from Gurgaon on the Farrukhnagar Road. Dhankot is popular for a village that supplied milk to Guru Dronacharya and also because it was graced by Lord Buddha during as mentioned in Buddhist literature.

Kingdom of Dreams: Kingdom of Dreams, a Bollywood style entertainment centre is the star attraction of Gurgaon. The place is huge and has aesthetically done interiors. One can enjoy the very popular live entertainment show Zangoora that is known for world class theatrical performance. Not to miss the sumptuous foods from every part of India in the food court popularly known as Culture Gully.

Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary: Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary and Lake is an exciting spot to visit in Gurgaon. Sultanpur Lake is also a sanctuary where birds from Europe and Siberia migrate during the onset of winters. A number of ornithologists frequent the place to view flocks of beautiful and exotic birds. The place is also popular as a picnic spot and bustling with activity during the winters. Visit Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary for clicking pictures of exotic birds perched on the back of Nilgais, and get on the watch tower with binoculars to enjoy a far sighted view.

Ambience Mall: Gurgaon has been popular as the mall capital of NCR. The city boasts of some of the oldest and biggest malls of NCR. Not to miss is the Ambience mall that offers 1 km of shopping on every floor. Ambi mall has nearly 250 shops inside. International stores like Debenhams, Marks and Spencer, Tommy Hilfiger, and plenty more attract a number of stylish shoppers to this destination. The food court of Ambience mall is a culinary delight as it serves variety of international and local cuisine. One can try Burmese and Korean food at Asia 7, or just chill at the Rockman’s Beer. Kids can have fun at the Fun City, a covered entertainment centre with go karting and other interesting activities. Recently, the mall also witnessed the opening of ice skating rink. Ambience mall is a one stop shop for variety of entertainment in Gurgaon.

Leisure Valley: Where Gurgaon is known for dearth of greenery, Leisure Valley caters to nature lovers. It’s a huge park with beautiful and well maintained flower garden. It’s a popular picnic spots for summer evenings and winter afternoons in Gurgaon. Leisure Valley also holds Flower Show during the winters. The park has beautiful fountains and also holds light and sound laser show in the evening.

A number of people visit Gurgaon for business as the city is home to big MNCs and IT giants. As business professional if you have crunch of time but still want to experience Gurgaon, then prioritize on the basis of suggested destinations.
