Andrew Dodt of Australia won his maiden European Tour title – the € 1.5 million Avantha Masters – at the DLF Golf and Country Club in gurgaon on Sunday.

Seven players entered the final round level for the lead, but it was Richard Finch of england who produced the best card of the day – 66 – and climbed 16 places to finish second to the winner.
Dodt, fired a four-under 68 and aggregated 14-under 274 to register his first professional win. Following his two top-10s on the Asian Tour last season, Dodt continued his brilliant form with two runner-up finishes in Australia and New Zealand last month.
Starting at 10-under on the final day, Dodt birdied holes two, six and eight to reach the halfway turn in 33. He slipped back to tied second after dropping a shot on the 11th , but regained top spot after picking a shot on the par-three 16th.
However, it was the all-important shot on the 18th that gave Dodt the outright lead which he held on until the end.
On the closing hole, he had his second shot trapped in the bunker but he landed his ball 2 feet from the pin that gave him an easy birdie chance.

The crowd favourite Gangjee, who was the centre of attention among the audience in the DLF Golf and Country club couldn’t deal with the pressure in the final stages and keep up with the momentum, leaving his fans dissappointed.
Indian fans were left dissappointed as Indian golf stars missed the cut at the Avantha Masters. Especially after pinning hopes on pros like Jeev Milkha Singh, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Chinnaswamy Muniyppa, SSP chowrasia and Mukesh Kumar.
Almost all of them played well in their first or second round but could not manage to stay for the final 36 holes. The only good news for Indian fans was that Rahul Gangjee joined the leading pack at 11-under 205.
Indian pros could learn from this experience and try to maintain consistency in the European or Asian Tour events that occasionally take place on domestic soil.
