India returns to the golfing spotlight this week as the European and Asian Tours unite with the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) to host the Avantha Masters tournament. The Avantha Masters will be held at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon near New Delhi from 11th – 14th February 2010.

The venue will be hosting this tournament for the first time, although it has hosted several professional events in the past such as the Johnie Walker Classic in 2008 which was won by New Zealand’s Mark Brown.
Although, many seasoned European Tour players are giving the Avantha Masters a miss but nonetheless many Asian Tour regulars will be participating in the event. This event offers a great oppurtunity for Asian Tour and PGTI players to leapfrog their way into the European Tours if they perform well.
The event will also see many fringe European Tour players, who could go a long way in securing a much greater status on that tour, should they be successful.
The tour will witness a fine line-up of Indian players such as Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa, Arjun Atwal, Chinnaswamy Muniyappa, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Anirbhan Lahiri, Himmat Singh Rai, SSP Chowrasia, Shiv Kapur, Ashok Kumar amd Mukesh Kumar.
The strong line-up will also include international players such as Danny Lee, Richard Finch, Mark Brown, Chinese star Liang Wen-chong and Thai duo Thaworn Wiratchant and Chapchai Nirat.
Jeev Milkha Singh, who at number 59, is the leading world rank player in the field and his performance at the Dubai Dessert Classic last week, with him finishing with the 15th place will surely give his local fans a thrill this week. He is hoping to celebrate with a home win.
Bhullar, who played a fabulous round to claim a come-from-behind victory at the Asian International in bangkok last week is in splendid form and is looking forward for his maiden European Tour title at his favourite golf course.
Muniyappa, who didn’t do that well in Thailand is hoping to put up a good show at the Avantha Masters.
Kapur, meanwhile is hoping to make his breakthrough at The European Tour this week at the DLF Golf and Country’s Club.
