Gurgaon has developed into a jungle of concrete. We can hardly see any greenery around. Tall buildings, and smoky clouds, dot the skyline of this millennium city. Large usage of power generator sets and diesel vehicles are causing endless increase in the pollution level of Gurgaon. In such scenario, a green initiative like that of developing a biodiversity park in the city is a great thought by the administration.
Finally Gurgaonites will have some green pasture where they can feel the nature closely and inhale some fresh air. The administration of Gurgaon is planning to develop Aravalli Biodiversity Park in the Nathupur area. At the foothills of Aravali, spread over an area of 160 acres, this park was inaugurated on the World Environment Day, on June 5th 2010.
To mark the inauguration of this park 300 saplings were planted by eminent personalities of the city as well as ordinary citizens. Some of the high Government officials who participated in this drive were Surjeet Singh Deswal, Police Commissioner of Gurgaon, Rajesh khullar, Municipal Commissioner, and representatives of various big organizations in Gurgaon.
The zest of Environment lovers and NGOs working for environment conversion was worth seeing. The members of Eco Club marched a procession with environment conversion banners. The procession terminated at the park after which they participated in planting of the saplings.
The forest department has been entrusted with the task of planting 5,500 trees in the Aravalli Biodiversity Park and also maintains the growth of plants till the end of 2 years. The forest department will assess the rocky terrain of Gurgain and decide which plants will suit the soil. Plants like Jamun, kher, etc will grow more easily here and provide good relief in summers.
To protect the land meant for this Bio Diversity park, the MCG has also started fencing the property with big walls made out of stone and meshed wire. Although MCG has big and long term plans for this park, the first phase will implement water bodies, rain harvesting pits, environment education center for kids, jogging and cycling tracks, variety of vegetation, and so on. In long term, the administration aims to develop the park as an entertainment destination by adding a night jungle safari to the park.
Tau Devi Lal Park was also developed as a bio diversity park in Gurgaon to provide some green and environmental relief to its citizens. However, Aravalli Bio Diversity Park is meant on a much bigger scale and will probably become a popular tourist destination in the coming years.

It is a great place for a walk. However the tree guards keep falling after every little storm that we have and I am getting a little tired of setting them upright time and again. Many saplings have snapped because of this. The trees could do with some manure
