DMRC to Take Back Charge of the Airport Metro

The project of airport expressline extension to Gurgaon would now not be built by the reliance infra. Earlier it was expected that on a (PPP) public privatepartnership model the project would be accomplished by reliance infrastructure but now the scenario seems to have changed. Now DMRC (Delhi Metro RailCorporation) is not keen any longer to award the project to reliance group. It is now dependent upon the government of Haryana to decide whether they will grant this project to another private player in the market or would leave it in the hands of DMRC.

Mangu Singh the director of DMRC mentions that a detailed project report(DPR) for the corridor proposal will be soon submitted to the government of Haryana. The Haryana Urban Development Authority expects DMRC to take the call. Once it is decided by DMRC then the cost sharing policy of the project can be accordingly chalked out as per the NCR, HUDA’s chief town planner BBL Kaushik.

The proposed corridor for the airport metro route extension which is supposed to connect airport with the IFFCO Chowk of Gurgaon would in all probabilities run through Gurgaon connecting through various stations. The Gurgaon stations to be linked to this metro route will be South City Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk, Old Delhi Road, Sector-23, Palam Vihar and Dwarka Sector 22.

Apparently, DMRC is extremely dissatisfied with the performance of reliance infrastructure due to their negligence in various aspects of the project and delay in meeting several important project related deadlines. According to a senior officer of DMRC, even the speed trial of the metro on the airport expressline is pending. This counts to be one of the major failures of the reliance infrastructure group.

However, reliance still hopes to get back the project and waiting for a formal communications for the same. It is expected that if the DPR will be cleared then the corridor extension of 11 kilometers will make a part of phase 3 of the Delhi metro. If the case is such then the line is expected to be seen running by the year 2014.

So, with reliance losing the project of the airport metro extension, it is now evident that this project is to see a sharp twist in the days to come. Although the property prospects of the surrounding areas will remain constant as there is no delay expected in the implementation of the project. Whatever be the outcome, the prospects of the property covered in the metro belt will take higher jumps as things get going with the approval of Haryana government for the airport metro extension project.
