Dust Pollution in Gurgaon

People from all over India and those living abroad regard Gurgaon as one of the most upcoming and modern cities of India. But the city has some major infrastructural flaws and other serious problems that cannot be overlooked. Dust pollution is one such issue that badly affects the environment and health of residents in Gurgaon.

Of course the millennium city is star studded with big names in MNCs, Corporates, and IT industry. The city is also a real estate hub with world class residential hubs and luxurious living. But on the same time infrastructural issues like broken road, lack of public transport, shortage of water and electricity, make Gurgaon a city difficult to live. The amount of pollution that Gurgaon suffers in form of dust and smoke is another factor that makes the life of its citizen really difficult.

For all the residents of Gurgaon, frequent dust storms and dusty air is nothing new. Many time during the year, and especially during summers the residents face repeated instances of strong dust storms. People wonder the source of this huge amount of dust that Gurgaon experiences. According to environmentalists, the amount of dust is high in Gurgaon as the nature of land is arid and dry. The lose dust particles or the crumbly top soil tends to mix itself in the air and spread in the atmosphere. Also the quality of soil in Gurgaon is very sandy that further worsens the level of air pollution in Gurgaon.

However, we cannot hold the geography of Gurgaon as the only factor responsible for dust pollution in Gurgaon. The huge amount of non-stop construction going on in the city is a major factor contributing to the air pollution in the city. We can see heaps of cement, sand, and land fill material lined up at every 1 km in Gurgaon. All these particles get mixed in the air and further spoil the quality of air in Gurgaon. It is the role of the Government and administration to regulate healthy construction practices in the city and take proper steps to control man made dust pollution in Gurgaon.

High amount of dust pollution in Gurgaon poses a number of health challenges for citizens. Respiratory and breathing problems are common among children and adults due to high dust particles in Gurgaon. Residents cannot keep their windows open in order to breathe fresh air as a layer of dust settles inside the house along with the air.

The problem of dust pollution in Gurgaon can be controlled to some extent by implementing the right construction practices. The lack of public transport leads to more number of vehicles on Gurgaon’s roads. Air and dust pollution can also be controlled to by reducing the number of vehicles on the road.

The residents of Gurgaon dream for a clean and green city, but can the high level of dust ever let the residents breathe a gush of fresh air.

I think if Dubai can be clean and green in the middle of a desert Gurgaon should not curse geography!! It’s only the will power of administration and citizens that can make a difference…. I went to sector 31 petrol pump for pollution check that guy gave me certificate without even checking!! Upon inquiring I came to know that he doesn’t have equipment even….
    God help!!
