Another look at the medical facilities in Gurgaon

Gurgaon apart from being the centre for many malls and IT businesses, has also become a hub for a number of private hospitals. These hospitals are as per international standards in terms of its infrastructure and facilities. Most of these hospitals treat for various ailments. Some hospitals are specialty hospitals such as Maternity, ENT, Cardiac, etc.

When you enter any of these hospitals you will be enticed by a plush lobby and campus and the staff will greet you graciously. The neat and hygienic environment and the air-conditioned corridors will not fail to impress you. But are these the reasons why one goes to the hospital? The authorities of such private hospitals forget that their goal is to treat their patients with care, sincerity, sensitivity and compassion. But alas, it has only become a money making business. Patients feel cheated and uncared for in these hospitals. The amenities provided do not help with this, if they did, then one could have just checked into a hotel and enjoyed its luxuries.

Whether you’re an outpatient or inpatient, you don’t feel that bond with the doctor. You’re just treated as a case or a file number. Even if you go to see the doctor for a year, the doctor will not remember your case. They’ll need to read your history before they diagnose you further. A consultation with a doctor in any of these hospitals will cost you anything between Rs. 400 – 600 and they will spend about 5- 10 minutes with you and recommend some tests (some necessary and some unnecessary) and ask you to return with the reports. These tests don’t come cheap. At the end of it all, you will realize that you’ve shelled out a few thousands to treat a minor ailment.

God forbid, if you have to undergo an operation or get admitted in the hospital, then there is no chance for you to leave the hospital without spending thousands and thousands of rupees. You will have to go through numerous tests. Every time the doctor visits you in the ward you will be charged a consultation fee, even if the doctor just spent a minute with you. They will try to extend your stay by a day or two by saying we need to observe the patient till he/she is not stable. I guess they forget that “extra stay” does not come free. At the end of the treatment, although the patient is cured, he or she will feel looted and cheated.

No matter how good the doctor is, these private hospitals have taught these doctors to think and act differently. They give them lucrative salaries and bonuses so that in return they can provide good revenues to the hospitals. It’s just sad to see that once upon a time, being a doctor was considered to be a noble and a compassionate profession. But today, it definitely is not a noble profession. It is time that these hospitals realize their purpose and how they can contribute to the society in a genuine way.

I feel pity for the guy writing this article. He need to go to a quack in slum for his treatment, who will show him all the sympahty using his body as a guinea pig to experiment. However he can see him and give him so called medicines for Rs 2.
This article reflects the typical indian mentality who can spend Rs 200 for pizza, can pay Rs 250 to a 10th fail guy with 15 day computer hardware course just to look at Rs 20000 desk tok and just to take off and put the RAM again, Can pay Rs 100,000 to 500,000 as commossion to an illiterate property dealer or agent to buy a 50Lakh flat in Gurgoan to sell again at higher price,

But if he thinks a doctor who has spent 15-20 years of life and lakhs of rupees in education, stayed away from home in hostels eating the food, which the greedy people like the person writing this article cook which is not fit even for animal consumpyion, spent 15-20 in learning medicine in this materialistic world will see him for free.

He should go to DHARAVI, rather than gurgoan to see a doctor.

The article is quiet true… private hospitals have become a money making business. I think most of u are from the medical field and are blinded by this fact. And looks like you haven;t been abroad at all and seen the medical facilities there.
