Gurgaon, well known for its upscale shopping malls, IT-enabled companies, top BPOs, KPOs and Manufacturing companies is situated in northern Haryana. The city has become an outsourcing hub in India and has become a hop spot for job searchers. World class infrastructure, decent cost of living, governmental support, social and political stability, easy and cheap availability of workforce and proximity to the airport are some of the vital factors which make Gurgaon a job seekers’ Mecca.

As per a study done by NeoIT, an off shoring consultancy, on 27 cities in India on their off shoring competitiveness, Gurgaon is the most sought after location for software and outsourcing. Gurgaon was preferred over Bangalore by some of the significant organizations to start their new operations.

Some of the big BPO’s, KPO’s, IT/ITES companies of Gurgaon are IBM-Daksh, GE caps, HCL technologies limited, Wipro technologies limited, Progeon, Convergys, Accenture services, Genpact, WNS, AMEX etc. Infact, the list is really getting longer with the rapid arrival of new BPO’s in Gurgaon.

Discussing about employment opportunities for professionals in Gurgaon, there is wide collection of tasks pertaining to operations, project management, client servicing, human resources, administration, accounting, technology, hospitality, manufacturing, logistics, publishing, media, entertainment, shipping, R&D and education etc. to perform. Companies in Gurgaon are generating plenty of job opportunities for candidates fresh from graduation.

While discussing the statistics and the job trends in most of the organizations in Gurgaon, 89% are voice and 11% are non voice based. Out of the total workforce in Gurgaon 53% is male and 47% is female. Amongst the total number of employed workers, employees aged upto 20 are 12%, employees aged 20-25 are 55%, employees aged 26-30 are 25% and employees aged 31-35 are 6%. However there are only 2% employees who are above 35 years of age. Further bifurcating the total employed workforce in Gurgaon in terms of monthly salary provides an interesting perspective:

Rs. 4000-5000     = 1%
Rs. 5000-10000   = 24%
Rs. 10000-15000 = 41%
Rs. 15000-20000 = 16%
Rs. 20000-30000 = 4%

A recent study of NASSCOM estimates, the Indian BPO industry had acquired a 2 % market share of the global market in the financial year 2002-2003 and is predicted to grow to 4% by the end of 2008. Thus there is a bright future for all investors who are planning to setup their operations in Gurgaon. The annual growth rate of the IT industry in Gurgaon last year was 30 to 35 percent, against the NASSCOM stipulated growth rate of 24 and 28 percent. Further, scores of new IT companies are expected to setup offices in Gurgaon as the SEZs come into existence. Hopefully the current global economic slowdown will not effect the outsourcing in a major way and outsourcing will in fact be reinforced because of this slowdown which will again help industries to grow in Gurgaon.
