Gurgaon Kid’s Work on Google Homepage

Puru Pratap Singh, a IV standard boy from Gurgaon was the chosen one among the 4000 entries to Google Doodle contest held across the India. The esteemed and highly acclaimed Google has set out the competition to design the homepage for Google India for the occasion of Children’s Day, November 14th.

The contest was kick started back in August by Google India, where students from I to X standard were allowed to participate and design the creative logo or as said by Google, the doodle, under the theme of “My India”. Puru’s artwork was prized number 1.

The Google logo designed by Puru reflected in its essence the complete Indian-ness and the real underlying culture of India. Named as “My India – full of life”, Puru captured the spirit of India with mere four elements of our nation. Beginning with the colorful vibrant peacock, national bird of India forming the beginning G of Google, he further instilled the message of patriotism through Amar Jyoti Jawan as ‘L’, our moral values as taught by Mahatma Gandhi hanging on ‘E’, beauty of heavenly Kashmir trapped in another ‘G’ and last but not the least, the ultimate touch by scientific inclusion of water found on moon in of the ‘O’ of Google. As cute the doodle designed by this smart kid looked, panel of judges found it as much apt for the occasion.

For any kid, live showcasing of his work, hard dedication and creative mind on the most popular search engine, Google homepage, should be more than a prize. But he was also awarded with Rs 1, 00,000 as technology grant for his school besides a laptop and a T-shirt with his doodle on it. Sure the kid and his parents are overwhelmed with the achievement so fine.

The panel of judge was not easy to impress. It included faculty and students from National Institute of Design (NID), Ahemdabad, renowned cartoonist N Ponnappa, and a young emerging Indian artist Raghava KK. After a careful and prolonged observation of 90 days, from the total of 4000 entries and 60, 000 votes, Dennis Hwang, the original doodler and the Master doodler chose the first-ever young doodler for India on the basis of “Innovation and Creativity”.

Dennis Hwang commented on the creativity blossoming in the India at a rapid rate and young kids like Puru have truly brilliant and original ideas to come up at international standards. “Choosing the successful entry was not easy as every Doodle depicts India in a unique manner”, said Dennis Hwang.

Sailesh Rao, MD of Google India, said that this was the first-ever doodle designed in India, for India, by Indians. So, we can say, the creative logo to represent Google India was “made-in-India”.

Designing for a world renowned Google, a word seen and remembered by billions across the globe is not a ‘kid’-ding task. Yet a IV standard kid Puru Pratap Singh on his achievement just showed that nothing is impossible. Congratulation to him on his spectacular accomplishment.

And hope Google would be now on even more interested to explore hidden avenues in India for their upcoming events.
