With over hundred residents of Sushant Lok holding placards, promoting “Save The Green”, the scene was worth to be noticed. It was a drive against Ansal Properties who are trying to sell the 1.5 acre green field park to commercial builders. On Sunday, a rage among Sushant Lok residents could be administered as they stood against the destruction of C-Block Park.
Women and children had also joined the cause protesting against the sale of green area for commercial use. President of Sushant Lok Resident Welfare Association stated that they have been fighting against the Ansal Proerty Agents since 2005 in which they have made several attempts to sell off the green land to potential buyers, ignoring the green area requirement guidelines.
The protest was on-going for two days and even this didn’t stop greedy estate agents from laying their hands on court subjugated property. Builders made another aggressive attempt by quoting a 4- year old interim order even though the court’s decision is yet to come on Monday, with one hearing already taken place on Saturday.
What baffles the dwellers of Sushant Lok is that when promoting the sale of Sushant Lok apartments and housing colonies, they were promised the wide and beautiful green turfs around the colony. Now that it is completely sold, the green fields are compromised for the commercial usage.
Lame excuse for building a dispensary has not deterred the residents to stop their course of actions. Vivek Kamboj, an environmentalist who works for his own NGO, Hariyali, is supporting the cause. He put limelight to already existing dispensary within 100 meter range of that area and saying that the residents do not need another dispensary.
Several attempts to claim this piece of land by Ansal Properties has lain in waste up until now. What is left to be seen is how far the residents of Sushant Lok can hold up against these influencial and powerful builders? Though this protest is not only about saving the greens of Gurgaon but also for righteously standing for promised privileges to the Sushant Lok dwellers.
