Gurgaon to Abbott Mount

In 1914, Abbott Mount was a bunglow built by Mr. Abbott which is situated among a thick forest of deodar and oak. There are other spectacular bunglows also built during the British Raj. The hill station gives a breathtaking view of the Himalayan peaks from here. Over this hill station only thirteen secluded cottages are there which are spread over here. Various activities and games are held here which helps in encouraging tourism. Abbott is around 3 km from Marorakhan and 7 km from Lohaghat which we can cover up by drive or by walk up to the mount.

Abbott Mount cottage is a colonial style lodge which offers four rooms with a kitchen and an independent toilet. The place has a picturesque church which is set among the forests and it offers excellent Himalayan views and is perfect for birding, nature treks and has an old cricket pitch with amazing views of the mountains.

Mayawati Ashram is a nearby place to visit, situated at an altitude of 1940 meters. It is 22 kms away from Champawat and from Lohaghat it is only 9 km away. The spiritualists are attracted to this ashram from India as well as abroad too. Mayawati established this ashram after the Avait Ashram – Amid and Old tea Estate. Later Swami Vivekanand also shifted the publication office of ‘Prabuddh Bharat’ from Madras to here. The Ashram also provides board and lodgings to the visitors on their requests. Mayawati Ashram also has a library and a small museum to spend your time.

Pancheshwar is another place to visit from Abbott Mount, at an altitude of 1940 meters. It is 40 km away from Lohaghat and forms the borders with Nepal. It is famous for the Temple of Chaumu with its fair and a dip at the confluence is believed to be very sacred. Chaumu is worshipped as a protector of animals with bells and milk as its offerings. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva at Pancheshwar.

To reach to Abbott Mount from Gurgaon there are large amount of buses available. But if you want to go from Delhi then you can hire a private taxi taking the route via Moradabad to Rampur ,then going to Tanakpur. From Tanakpur it’s a 90 km hill drive to Lohaghat, which is just a km away from Abbott Mount.
For bus transport you can take the particular bus which will take you to Abbott Mount from I.S.B.T bus stand in Delhi.

For rail transport, there is an overnight air-conditioned train which takes you from Delhi to Kathgodam from where you have to take the bus or taxi to Lohaghat.
