Dagshai has a history and it is always enjoyable to turn over the pages to know about its establishment from a cluster of wooden wilderness hamlets. Britishers developed Dagshai, a well established cantonment with large jails where freedom-fighters, mutineers and foreign law breakers were kept and were sentenced. There were 50 prison cells, each cell of approximately 6 ft by 12 ft having small iron barred high window and locked by two strong doors. But now this area is used as an M.E.S. godown. The local people here hope that the government would soon develop the place to turn into an attractive tourist spot in order incur a handsome revenue.
There is an Army Public School and a huge play field at the hill top, where Durand Cup football matches used to be played. Dagshai is famous for its scenic beauty with cobblestone streets, old mansions and also some of the picnic spots under the shades of oak trees.
Being Dagshai a nice place to visit with historical importance, it is easy to reach here. From Gurgaon many buses are available to reach Dagshai. If the way suits you from Delhi you can take the buses from I.S.B.T. There are some state owned buses which takes you to Kasauli bus stop. From there Dagshai is just 19 km which you can cover up by taking a taxi or another bus.
If you are willing to go by rail transport, then take the required train from old Delhi railway station or Nizamuddin. You will have to step down to Kalka station. From there hire the prepaid taxi at reasonable rates to Dagshai which is around 54 km from Kalka.
By air you can take your flight from Indira Gandhi Airport which will land you at Chandigarh. Take the taxi to Dagshai which is just 67 km distance from Chandigarh.
You can also reach by road; hire a taxi directly from Delhi to Dagshai which is at a distance of 320 km.
