Gurgaon to Deeg

Deeg is a small town which is situated in the Northern Indian state of Rajasthan, located at around 152 km away from Delhi. Deeg was the capital of Jat rulers with Badan Singh being proclaimed its ruler in 18th century.

The entrance to the Deeg Fort is via a bridge in the north and through a gateway confined with anti-elephant spikes. But the most impressive part of the fort is its huge towers which stand proudly piercing the sky. There are 12 towers in all, the largest being the Lakha Burj in the north-west corner. The towers were fitted with cannons to take a good shot at any forthcoming enemy. We have still preserved the cannon of Lakha Burj. The building to the north is known as Nand Bhawan. Gopal bhawan is the main building on the west, and is the largest of all the palaces. On either side of Gopal Bhawan, there are two smaller buildings namely Sawan and Bhadon Bhawans. The entrance to the north is known as Singh Pole, carved with a couple of lions above the gateway.

The most notable feature is the fountains numbering about 500. Deeg is a small town situated in the north Indian state of Rajasthan, around 152 km away from Delhi. Deeg was the capital of Jat rulers with Badan Singh being proclaimed its ruler in 18th century.

The most striking feature is the fountains numbering about 500. One can see the bases of these sticking up all around the palace, but unless one visits on a Saturday in August, one is unlikely to see the water display operational for it requires a great amount of water. If you plan a visit to Deeg during the colorful month of Holi, the spectacular view of the fountains spread out. One can wait till sunset for the colored lights to illuminate the fountains, at Deeg, the fountains gush multicolored displays during the day as well.

Although it does not contain the romanticized lure of Udaipur or Jaipur, its elegance touches the soul immediately.

The places to see nearby are:
