Jageshwar is located in the middle of a tranquil and calm atmosphere. The place has a peaceful environment with the tall deodar trees. Jageshwar is just 34 km far from Almora. Over the beautiful temple looms a continuous chain of snowcapped mountain ranges. Since the time of immemorial, an Akhand Jyoti is believed to be burning here. In Jageshwar, around 200 temples are built in honour of Lord Shiva. Thousands of devotees come here every year during Shivratri.
Dandeshwar, a gigantic temple structure is charming and antiquated with fine samples of ancient iconography. At the gateway of temple, there is a huge bell which forms an important link between Lord Shiva and local deity-Gollu Devta.
There are many shrines here dedicated to Lord Shiva addressed by diverse names like Dandeshwara, Nilankantheshwara, Mahamrityujaya, and so on.
Vriddha Jageshwar is around 3 km above hill from Jageshwar. Jageshwar is a prestigious Hindu religious location constructed by Katyuri dynasty. At Vaddakkunnath Temple, the famous Pooram Festival is celebrated with nightlong fireworks and a magnificent elephant procession. In August/September, the whole state wears a festive look, during Onam, the harvest festival.
There is the Mritola Ashram which is a centre of natural and spiritual beauty luring foreign disciples. From Jageshwar it is just a trek of 10 km.
You can reach to Jageshwar by Road. You can take a taxi or a bus from Gurgaon to Almora which is well connected by road. If you are not comfortable going from Gurgaon can take the bus from Delhiās I.S.B.T bus stop. The bus will take you at Almora Bus stand from where Jageshwar is just 35 km. from Almora. You can take a taxi to reach your destination.
To reach to Jageshwar by Rail Transport, take the right train from either Old Delhi station or from Nizamuddin which will take you to Kathgodam station. From there hire a taxi or a bus to cover up 90 km to reach Jageshwar.
One can also reach Jageshwar by Air. Take the required flight from Indira Gandhi airport, which will drop you at nearest airport for Almora which is Pantnagar. Take a taxi or the bus from there to cover up the distance to Jageshwar.
