Mussoorie was crowned as ‘The Queen of the Hills’ during the British rule in India. The city is still known for its charm and beauty and has become one of the most frequently visited tourists’ destinations. This hill station is located at an altitude of around 6,578ft moving 34km’s away from Dehra Dun. The natural beauty and serenity of the place is well highlighted in the waterfalls, valleys and greenery spread all around. Mussoorie is named after the name of an herbal tree (Mussoorie) which is present in the entire city in large quantities.

Though many people say that the place has lost its luster to a greater extent, still the air is so pure and rejuvenating that it ties up with the eye catching beauty of the plains and mountains and become an attraction for most of the travelers. Though the city is not so popular for very long holidays but people love to spend few days by visiting some of the most popular locations like Kemty fall, shopping at Mall Road, Dhanaulti and beautiful green gardens. One can enjoy the pleasure of sightseeing as the whole place itself offers a natural look of its own scenic beauty. The very start of your journey from Dehra Dun to Mussorie would provide the hill side view with the changing variations of the scenery from Sal to the Oak and pine forest.

Mussoorie is well recognized for its handicraft. The famous Mall road is an attraction for the visitors as the market contains material made from Oak wood in the form of sticks and vases. You can even find brass material also. Some tourists often try garhwali outfits and catch their dazzling looks in their cameras.

The climate of the place is extremely pleasant as both the air and the water getting along with the natural greenery makes the place cool and serene. The area is hilly so the climate is always favorable and relaxing. During winters the city also witnesses heavy snowfall. Sometimes it’s so heavy that the roads too get blocked.

The easiest way to reach Mussoorie is through NH58 road if you are traveling by bus or car. From Delhi, Mussoorie is around 269km’s away and it takes approximately 7 hrs to reach there while going by road. The route to be followed is via Meerut crossing Roorkee and reaching Muzaffarnagar. Another very comfortable road is NH72A that crosses Chhutmalpur and Mohand. If you prefer to get down at the Indira Gandhi or Palam Airport near Gurgaon, the best way is to hire a private taxi moving straight to Dehra Dun but that would be slightly uncomfortable as the traveling time would be pretty much. To avoid this, schedule according to the timings of super-fast trains like Mussoorie Express, Doon Express, Gorakhpur-Doon Express. They give luxurious comfort by making you reach on time. The total time taken to reach Mussoorie from Gurgaon is 5 and half hours only.

If you prefer Traveling by Air, the time lag would be reduced on a greater extent and you would be there in 50mins. There are direct flights going straight to Mussoorie from both the Gurgaon airports. Nearest Airport is the Jolly Grant Airport at a distance of about 59kms.
