Nahan is a small hill station situated over an isolated ridge in the Shivaliks, about 932 meters in altitude.

The town’s special attraction includes its three lovely and lonely walks, known as the Villa Round, the Military Round and the Hospital Round, which gives the tourists an awesome view of the surrounding area. Legends says that there was a saint ‘baba banvari das’ who lived with a companionable Nahar on the site where the Nahan palace now stands. “Nahar”means lion and the town takes this fierce name from this meaning. The town is known for its cleanliness and dust free streets. Saints and princes are linked with the origin of Nahan and mythology is embedded in the deep surroundings of the town. It is known as headquarter of sirmaur district. In the heart of Nahan town is Ranital bagh, where a large temple and garden is worth having a look.

• Suketi Fossil Park: Suketi Fossil Park displays life size fiberglass models including fossils and skeleton of pre-historic animals. The park is developed at the actual site where fossils were discovered.
• Trilokpur temple: It is situated at a distance of 23-kms from Nahan. The temple of the goddess Mahamaya Bala Sundri is very famous and attracts number of pilgrims from Haryana and Himachal as well as tourists from northern India.
• Dhaula kuan: It is 20-kms from Nahan and is famous for a sprawling orchard consisting of citrus plants and mangoes and a fruit canning factory of various kinds of juices, jams, pickles and canned fruits.
• Giri nagar: This town has a power house of 60 M.W. capacitiy.

Fairs and festivals are celebrated in the town:

• Bawan Dwadshi is celebrated towards the end of the monsoon, when fifty-two idols of local gods are carried in procession to Jagannath temple, where they are floated ceremoniously in a pool for bathing them.
• Shravan Sankranti is celebrated in the month of July at Arki. Buffalo fights mark the Sair Fair conducted in the honor of Banar devta of Shari.

When to visit the place?

The climate of Nahan is pleasant throughout the year. But the best time to visit is from December to March. This area of Himachal comprises mainly of lower Shivaliks of dense forests, man-made lakes and rivers. Verdant green woodlands, towering mountain ranges, perfectly carved river valleys and forceful blessings of Mother Nature of Nahan is major attraction of nature and adventure lovers.

• Nearest airports to nahan are Dehradun and Chandigarh. Chandigarh is about 100 km away from the city, which is well connected by air to many places like Amritsar and Delhi. Dehradun is 65 km away from Nahan. Delhi is the center most place from where one can reach anywhere in India and abroad.



• Indian railways connect many cities and states from the capital state of ‘Delhi’. Many trains departing from Delhi are available suiting time and destinations. The nearest railway station is Ambala, 100 kilometers away from nahan, which is connected by a regular bus service. Taxis are also available from the railway station to Nahan costing around 2000 rupees.
