A delightful retreat of angling, Himachal Pradesh offers numerous exotic spots of fun filled adventures to its visitors. Seema at the banks of Pabbar River is one among such exciting locales that is full of thrilling and awesome escapades. One can have interesting and entertaining pastime here at Seema since it is regarded as one of the best angling sites in the hilly area.
Seema is located very near to Rohru town. This area is famous for the fiddly trout fishes which make one’s fishing quite exhilarating. One can even find brown and Rainbow varieties in the streams of Himachal that offers marvelous opportunities of angling.
Raja Bajrang Bahadur Singh of Bhadri had log huts built here on the Pabbars bank to uphold fishing. This angler’s paradise is around 30 kilometers away from jubbal.

Jubbal is 1,892 m above the sea level and is a princely state which is in the east of Shimla and near the valley of the Pabbal River. There is a beautiful palace which is a blend of European and traditional architecture. It was designed by a French architect in 1930. The newly refurbished palace has turned into a heritage property. A nice walk through the lovely apple orchards and the thrilling escapades like trekking and angling makes one’s tour an everlasting experience.
There is Hatkoti were there are few temples which is named after the goddess Hatkeshwari, also one of the Lord Shiva’s names. The Pabbal River is a river arising in the Chansal Range south of Kinnaur and is full of snow and spring fed lake called Chander Nahan or Chandar Naun.
Main attractions nearby are:
- Khara Pathar: Khara Pathar towers at 8,770 ft. Apart from the apple orchards, deodars and pines crowd its slopes. There is a 7-km jeep track from here which leads up to the Giri Ganga Temple.
- Rohru: Rohru is Shimla district’s apple hub and is surrounded by hills. Though the best time to see ripe fruit is between September and November, the trees begin flowering around April. Rohru also has a temple dedicated to Shikhru Devta, a local divinity, but it is here that you see the deep influence of Hatkeshwari Devi.
- Kotkhai: The point of entry to the apple country stretching past Rohru is situated at a height of 5774ft. The major attraction in Kotkhai is its beautiful palace with discriminating heavily carved wooden pillars.
- Chirgaon: Two small streams, Andhra and Gumma join the Pabbar River. Adventure seekers can take off for a long trek to Dodra Kwar, the furthest village across the 13,845 ft Chanshal Pass, which remains open from May to October. Chirgaon also boasts a trout hatchery.
How to reach?
- Seema is 453 kilometers away from Delhi. If you want to travel by road, then you can take NH 1 to Ambala which takes you to NH22 for Shimla, continue on NH 22 via Kufri, Theog and Narkanda. Then take the state road to Thanedar which will drop you at Seema. It will take 11 hrs to reach by road.
- Nearest railhead to Seema is Kalka which is located at a distance of 157 km. It is well connected with Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Howrah by regular express train services. The Kalka mail runs straight. Taxi fare from Kalka Railway station to Seema is about Rupees 3000.
- Jubbarhatti airport in Shimla is the nearest airport to Seema which is at a distance of 97 km away from Seema. This airport has connecting flights from Delhi. International travelers can avail the facilities provided by the Delhi International airport to travel to Jubbarhatti in Shimla. A taxi or a tourist cab charges about Rupees 2,000 from the Jubbarhatti airport to Seema.
