Yadavindra Gardens earlier known as Pinjore gardens are located 20 km from Chandigarh, 15 km from Panchkula on the Chandigarh Shimla road. Pinjore is beautifully placed at the foothills of the lower Shivalik ranges. It is spread on a total area of 100 acres. The fascinating Garden is one of the most popular picnic spots. A mini zoo, green lawns, plants nursery, a Japanese garden, historic palaces and picnic lawns attract tourists. Especially at weekends, fountains are switched on in the evenings; lights glorify the beauty of the palaces by night. Special programs are arranged for the Baisakhi (spring) festival in April and for the Mango Festival in June and July at the Yadavindra Gardens. The garden is open from 7a.m. to 10p.m with an entry ticket of Rs.20.

Yadavindra Gardens were built by nawab Fidai Khan, a cousin of Aurangzeb and a great architect in 17th century A.D. The Rang Mahal (painted palace), Sheesh Mahal (palace of glass), the Rang Mahal and the cube-like Jal Mahal (palace of water) are palaces built in the Gardens. He planned the Garden on the classical Charbagh pattern. He gave the area a central water way. A watercourse traipsing from upwards sparkles in the sunlight; its pools reflecting on the surface white shining pavilions and balconies etched high against the blue sky. This waterway is covered with patches of green borders with flowers and shades of trees from both the sides. The last structure of the doorway had recently been changed into a disc-like open-air theatre.
