Founder of NGO, ‘Hariyali in 2005’, and owner of finance firm in outer delhi, Vivek Kamboj is a man on mission to save Gurgaon’s green cover. He has planted over 31,000 trees in past 2 years in the millennium city of concrete buildings and high speed roads.
Preserving greenery is the sole aim of his organization, working without any aid from the government, monetarily or administratively. With demanding lifestyle of businessman, he has managed to effectively run the organization, involving campaigns of planting trees in the urban areas of Gurgaon, notifying illegal cut-down of trees in residential and commercial areas, and running awareness drives to keep the city green.
Because of his dedicated and selfless act, Forest Department has also taken a step in issuing notices to residents who cut down trees in and around their houses without the permission from the Forest Department. Section 4 of the Punjab Land Preservation Act 1990, under which axing down trees even in private property, without the permission from Haryana Forest Department, is a punishable crime where citizens violating the said rule can be prosecuted under section 33 of Indian Forest Act and tried in environment court, Faridabad.
Forest Department officials further put limelight to degrading situation of posh colonies of DLF, HUDA sectors, Sushant Lok and south city. Kamboj expresses his deep concern over people who have considerably robbed the environment of its foliage just to propel the market value of their houses.
He added onto this by sighting the gruesome acts of Gurgaon residents and owners of commercial establishments of cutting down thousands of grown-up tress planted in their vicinity.
His journey to this day has not been smooth, with wealthy and influential people threatening him and asking him to mind his own business, nature-lover Vivek Kamboj has not deterred from his ambition to stop people from cutting down trees.
Since teenage, he has a deep-rooted love for trees, as he recalls an incident, “I had cut down a tree and could not sleep at night. I changed completely after that and took it as a duty to save every tree that is around me,” Kamboj said. With upbeat determination and enduring childhood love for trees, Kamboj feels that this is the only way to enhance Gurgaon’s green cover and save it from becoming a jungle of concrete buildings and roads.
