Gurgaon, the millennium city of India has undergone a phenomenal change in the last decade. From a sleepy town to an upbeat business destination, the picture of Gurgaon has entirely changed. The city has a new profile with educated working class men and women ready to take the responsibility of making Gurgaon a better place to live. Iamgurgaon is one such initiative by the residents of this millennium city.

Iamgurgaon is an initiative by residents of Gurgaon who believe that mere talks are not sufficient to bring change. This citizen forum was started by Gitanjali Mathrani, Latika Thakral, and Swanzal Kapoor. All the three ladies have a successful career in big corporate. The first initiative was taken by Latika Thakral who dreamt of transforming Gurgaon in a world class city not only in words but deeds. Later this NGO was joined by many towering personalities of Corporates in Gurgaon. One example is Deep Karla, the MD of Makemytrip.

The team realized that Gurgaon is actually plagued by a number of infrastructure problems. Lack of parking space, poor drainage system, inefficient garbage collection, broken roads, insufficient power and water supply, the problems are not one but manifold. Although the real estate costs are booming in the city and Gurgaon is famous for the best housing complexes, residents have to undergo horrible experience once they step out of their posh localities and face the traffic and road conditions.

In such a scenario, a team like that of iamgurgaon was badly required to bring considerable and fast improvement in the situation. The forum has members and workers from varied fields. Each of them successfully contributes according to their resources and skill.

Iamgurgaon has taken some brilliant initiatives that are worth talking about. The idea of Biodiversity Park was conceptualized and suggested to the Haryana Government by this forum only. The NGO works in close coordination with the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon and keeps on advising regarding positive steps that must be taken in order to improve the situation. Another major improvement sought by iamgurgaon is efficient management of garbage disposal. A few members of the forum observed that the garbage collectors picked up debris from one place and dumped at another. They went to the municipal corporation of Gurgaon with an effective plan of garbage disposal and sweepers were accordingly trained to do it the right way.

Rome was not built in a day, and so every city takes time to take its character. Gurgaon has undergone a lot teething troubles due to lax attitude of the Haryana Government. However, with efforts like that of iamgurgaon, the city is geared to soon get transformed into a world class city with smart people and up-to-date infrastructure.
