Increased toll rates won’t promise smoother ride on Delhi-Gurgaon e-way

1st April 2009, Wednesday

Gurgaon express way

Motorists using the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway will have to pay more money from today for using the 27.7 km long stretch but smoother ride for road users will just remain the promise. With almost more than a year after the e-way was opened for traffic, the waiting time continues to be very long.

It almost takes 4-6 minutes for a vehicle to cross toll plaza even at the non-peak hours. The situation is no more different for the tag users because in confusion most of the non-tag users enter the dedicated lines for tag users. Kshitij Chopra, a regular commuter said that there are signages on the e-way saying that the violators will have to pay extra but he hasn’t seen anything like that happening.

One other problem is multiple vehicles trying to get into one lane that leads to delay. However one spokesperson said that they are planning to paint the tag lanes with fluorescent paint up to a distance of 250 meters from the toll plaza to make them visible and also educating the commuters about the lane discipline. Moreover the police officials said that they are examining the legal implication on the use of tag lanes by the non-tag users and necessary actions will be taken soon.
