Law and order in Gurgaon is a major issue that affects the working of big IT and MNC companies. The city has experienced a mushroom growth of big corporate houses and global business in the last decade. Although the city has experienced sudden economic boom and enormous real estate development, the basic infrastructure, and law and order are missing.
Although the other parts of NCR like Noida, Faridabad, and Gaziabad are equally infamous due to the horrible situation of law and order, Gurgaon has lately gained a lot of negative publicity. Rape, robbery, theft, molestation, has become common place in Gurgaon. Women travelling to work feel unsafe travelling in public transport and particularly during late nights.
Due to a number of BPOs and IT companies that operate 24×7, Gurgaon needs special protection force that can be agile for public safety during the night. Apart from this Gurgaon also needs a more streamlined traffic and enforcement of sound traffic rules. For this the city needs an efficient traffic police department that can control road accidents and crime on roads.
In light of the growing crime rate in Gurgaon, the city administration has adopted some measures in the recent past. Here are some key measures recently taken by Gurgaon administration in order to improve the law and order situation:
1. Many new recruits have been added to the Gurgaon police force. Due to sudden growth of population in Gurgaon, the city badly needed more police personnel to manage law and order in the city. In year 2010, the police force has been strengthened considerably. Most importantly a handful of police personnel are being trained to use computers in order to ensure better and fast management. This way the police department can share their records with general public.
2. Gurgaon Traffic police is now on Facebook. Now public can get traffic updates and also lodge online complains through facebook. Suggestions from general public are also welcome. A two-way SMS alert system has also been started by the traffic police in order to further reduce the gap between the police and public.
3. Gurgaon police, famous for its uncouth behavior has been recently provided behavioral training so that they can be patient and polite with public. They are being trained in soft skills and better communication skills.
4. On a lighter side, the overweight and out-of-shape police personnel have been given a deadline to reduce their flabs and start looking fit and healthy. Gurgaon police thinks that this step is quite crucial in order to improve the image of police as lethargic and laid-back.
With all this initiative Gurgaon police is all set to serve the citizens better and eliminate law and order in Gurgaon.
