Gurgaon Traffic Bottleneck
Proposed by DLF, the new development plan will be undertaking the construction of an underpass and a flyover at Sikanderpur Chowk to ease the traffic hassles. This project comes under the proposed plan by DLF that also includes an underpass at Shankar Chowk, widening of Cyber City road, and a flyover at sector 42-43 crossing. The complete development plan is estimated to cost Rs 346 crore and is approved by HUDA.
Sikanderpur Chowk in Gurgaon, one of the busiest crossings, is presently dealing with traffic merging from Mehrauli, Faridabad, the residential sectors of Gurgaon and Cyber City road. But with the new development plan in proposal, commuters can take a breath of relief.
Considering the present traffic situation at Sikanderpur crossing, the project will smoothly avoid the frequent jams, especially at rush hours by dividing the traffic. Flyover is meant to deal with the traffic coming from Mehrauli towards NH8 while underpass will take the load from Cyber City to the residential sectors of Gurgaon.
DLF plans to first widen the Cyber City road till Sikanderpur so as to facilitate the commuters as well as nearby MNCs. Then a 1.2km-long underpass will take the traffic coming from Cyber City towards the residential sectors, as reputed newspapers quoted B N Pande, GM, Infrastructure, DLF Ltd. The underpass would begin from petrol pump to Bristol Chowk.
Also, the flyover at Sikanderpur Chowk will be of 800 meter long, three lanes, constructed under DLF metro rail. It will begin at Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, efficiently separating the traffic coming from Mehrauli directed towards NH8 via Cyber City Road.
The flyover planned at sector 42-43 crossing will benefit the commuters going towards sector 55-56 and Golf Course Road. This flyover would be, however, 1.15km long structured as six lanes, in effect greatly reducing traffic. While the four-lane underpass at Shankar Chowk would help the traffic coming from Delhi and going to Cyber City.
With this plan proposed, the traffic burst would definitely clear out from the key block points such as Shankar Chowk and Sikanderpur Chowk. Morever, metro would further decrease the traffic flurry.
However, when these plans will commence is yet to be known. Till then, fight your own demons of daily traffic!
