New Ways to Stop Encroachment

On repetitive complaints from Gurgaon residents about the increasing encroachment on both sides of market areas in HUDA sectors have driven the authorities in Gurgaon to check for illegal encroachment as well as power supplies to squatters.

In an answer to the rampant encroachment problem in HUDA sectors, authorities have come up with innovative way to curb these encroachments. Deputy Commissioner has ordered power officials to register FIRs against the shopkeepers who provide electricity extension to squatters. This will help contain the shopkeepers who have no fear of police and other authorities since they lack in taking any serious action against them

Senior HUDA official said that even though there are frequent drives conducted to swipe off these temporary encroachments in the sublet passages in the market area, in front of their shops but since there is no penalty of utilizing illegally the market space, they are hardly bothered by these drives. A few days after the drive the encroachments show up again as usual.

HUDA official further informed that they understand the pattern of increasing these encroachments. The shopkeepers illegally provide electricity connections to the encroached area. Using this information, DC has authorized power utility authorities to book these shopkeepers for providing illegal electricity.

The annoyed public states that these market areas are so heavily intruded that there is no convenient space for walking in between the shops. Also, in case of emergency like fire, the area will be so clogged that no one will be able to escape the chaos. HUDA official further added to the list of consequences that the residents of Gurgaon has to bear by putting limelight on how electricity is illegally used, debarring the authorized residents of its actual use.

Encroachment menace has previously entrapped the Millennium City within its filthy claws. Although authorities are directed to conduct regular inspections in the market personally so that no encroachment is made, but the residents hardly see anything of that sort happening, eventually leaving the public to browse in over-crowded, superfluous market.

At one side are glitzy, spick-span high towering malls in Gurgaon where chic class of urbanites loves to shop. And on the contrary are these HUDA market areas, where people struggle to breathe their way out. Both represent the growing Millennium City.
